fringe friday fellowship

When trying to come up with an alliteration for this new weekly feature, I turned to my favorite digital writing tool, Visual Thesaurus.

I can’t remember the path I took to get from “round-up” to “fellowship”, but Visual Thesaurus always makes for an interesting  journey.

So yeah, there are now ads on my blog. I’ve never been against ads, and now that I’ve been out of work for six months, I am for them more than ever. I will not denigrate the process by using the whoring out my blog. Anymore.

Sarah, winner of one of my December blog theme giveaways, has started a group on Ning. It’s a year of monthly challenges, and I have signed up to participate. I don’t know what my January theme will be, yet. Sign up and help me decide.

A few new rocks landed in the lifestream: The Oatmeal, which, apparently has been around a lot longer than the week before I discovered it. Work Awesome makes me realize I could have been on better cubicle behavior and, for that, I am truly sorry the breakroom coffee was so god-awful. Letters of Love matches people with depression with like-minded (heh) people as pen pals.

My dog barks when she’s bored. Too bad she can’t find two kids anywhere to play with her for hours and a baby’s butt to lick and sniff. Citronella collar, here she comes.

It’s my nature to have a very small, very close circle of friends and family, and my social media network seems to follow that trend, but that doesn’t mean I’m adverse to growing my network. A little nervous, maybe, not adverse. If you’ve been lurking for a while, please feel free to let me know who you are. If I already know who you are, say something anyway. It’s a tiny family, but we can still ask each other: you’re not leaving the house in that, are you?

Questioning my fashion statements in comments…

Here’s what I have to say today: Minnesota winters are seriously messing with my wardrobe mojo. I mean seriously, who can look cute while wearing two shirts, leggings under jeans, and a scarf just to stay warm inside? I’m not even going to talk about all the stuff I had to put on to shovel in the three below after work last night.

I read your comments on my phone, then hopped out of bed to layer the kids for walking to the bus stop and to school. They look like the Michelin Man, but it’s 14 degrees today, the coldest it’s been here since before they were born.

I’m sure your fashion statement is perfectly understandable for the weather!

I’m the same way. A lot of people see their social networks as a bunch of numbers. Personally, I don’t think I could keep up with 1,000+ people on Twitter. I’m perfectly happy with the followers I have on each of my Twitter accounts, and the size of my Facebook network. (I do need to pay attention to my LinkedIn more often, though!) I think I can put much more focus on the people I’m interacting with when I’m not worried about trying to have 3k friends.

There are people who are used to being admired and followed everywhere they go, online or off. The numbers are more important than the relationships behind the numbers. You and I are very likely huddled together at the opposite end of that madness, wondering if anyone brought hot chocolate.
