What did I do the very first weekend without my baby and the puppy?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Besides drop both of them off at their respective extended stay hotels.
I slept and blew my nose a lot. I watched about three hours of TV. I checked in on the baby; can’t say I did the same for the dog. Couldn’t find my Sudafed PM, so I settled for Advil PM. Drank root beer washed down with two chili cheese burritos.
Unable or unwilling to comb my hair, I showed up at a baseball parents’ meeting with my head wrapped in a blue bandana. Jordan has been invited to play an exhibition game at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn., this summer! That event should move into her long-term memory very quickly, eh? How exciting. Just as I was about to install a PayPal button on my blog, her league sponsors set up a foundation that will do a little fundraising to cover the kids’ and their individual chaperones for the trip. We’re drawing family straws for who gets to go.
Ehren is enjoying himself a little too much in north Texas. He stopped looking for me after about two hours, dang it. He’s been laughing and smiling and playing with his other family like he’s known them forever. Like I haven’t spent every waking moment for a year wiping his butt and shampooing throw-up from my hair. I’m very relieved things are going so well. Love always makes the hard part not so hard.
Hey, did I ever tell you I signed up my piano-playing, playwright poet for youth full-tackle football? Suck it, school bullies. We are coming for you next year. Or, at least, we’re getting off the Xbox.
Your mom knowing what’s good for you in comments…
You are the best mom ever.

MM, the ant colony in the dog’s food dish agrees with you wholeheartedly.
Don’t worry he’s saying ma ma in between the dahs and nanas. He certainly does hate those baths though!
Aw, thanks for the reassurances. I continue to advise quick once-overs with a baby wipe!
Whooo to the words series hoo! THAT IS AWESOME!

You are our greatest cheerleader, Tex, and we thank you for that.
My stepdad used to say that kids are more permanent than tattoos! Look forward to checking out your work through the 31 days project. Thanks for visiting my little world earlier today!–Nolan
I enjoyed your elevator pitch, which made me click through to your blog. Thanks for the visit. Don’t be a stranger!
I can’t wait for that little poet to full body tackle one of those bullies. That would be so righteous.

Totally!
Mmm…chili cheese burritos. You drink like I do!
My moms always convinced me to eat stuff I didn’t want by telling me that “it’ll put hair on your chest”.
Williamsport? Hooray! Love me some Little League World Series.
