I can’t put my finger on it, but I think it was sometime around my participation in 31DBBB.

New readers came in, couldn’t figure out my “theme”, complained about my having no “theme” and generally groused about being unable to figure out what was going on in my posts and in comments. One visitor called it a chummy club, claimed she was cool with it, then never visited free fringes again.

It was definitely easier when it was only Betty, my pseudonymous former co-worker from the space center; Michele, my writing blogging bud from way back when blogging was cool; and my husband who’d managed to stick with me through previous blog incarnations and related panic attacks. Three readers who understood when I picked up the thread of a blog post three weeks later without missing a beat and, certainly, without explanation.

At the risk of sounding angsty like kindred spirit Neil Kramer over at Citizen of the Month, there are decisions to be made when in this public forum: is this my personal space that you’ve stumbled upon, and you are welcome to pull up a chair as long as you can stand the cat hair or is it a nearly empty performance hall spotted with folk who’ve paid a premium for a damn good show? Who knows?

Well, I know, but I’m not telling.
